Nitrous oxide improves cardiovascular, respiratory, and thermal stability during prolonged isoflurane anesthesia in juvenile guinea pigs

چکیده

Anesthesia is frequently used to facilitate physiological monitoring during interventional animal studies. However, its use may induce cardiovascular (central and peripheral), respiratory, thermoregulatory depression, confounding results in anesthetized animals. Despite the wide utility of guinea pigs as a translational platform, anesthetic protocols remain unstandardized for extended studies this species. Therefore, optimizing an protocol that balances stable anesthesia with intact cardiorespiratory metabolic function crucial. To achieve this, 12 age sex-matched juvenile Dunkin Hartley underwent (≤150 min) either (a) isoflurane (ISO: 1.5%), or (b) + N2O (ISO+ N2O: 0.8% +70%), randomized cross-over designed study. Cardiovascular (HR, SBP, peripheral microvascular blood flow), respiratory (respiratory rate, SpO2), thermal (Tre Tsk) measures were recorded continuously throughout anesthesia. Blood gas pre- post- performed. Incorporation 70% allowed significant reductions (to 0.8%) while maintaining effective depth prolonged noninvasive examination pigs. ISO+N2O maintained heart flow, at levels closest those conscious animals, especially females; however, it did not fully rescue anesthesia-induced hypotension. These suggest requiring pigs, adjuvant provides adequate anesthesia, minimizing associated depression. The preservation status most marked first hour

Median nerve evoked responses and explicit memory during recovery from isoflurane/nitrous oxide anesthesia.

PURPOSE To evaluate median nerve somatosensory evoked responses during recovery from anesthesia in relation to clinical findings. METHODS Twenty-two gynecologic patients received isoflurane in nitrous oxide for anesthesia. Midlatency somatosensory evoked responses (N20, P25, N35, P45, N50) were recorded the day before surgery (AWAKE), during steady state anesthesia (STABLE), and every five mi...

Mild hypothermia during isoflurane anesthesia decreases resistance to E. coli dermal infection in guinea pigs.

Small changes in core temperature profoundly alter cutaneous blood flow, a major factor influencing resistance to wound infection. Furthermore, when measured in vitro, various immune functions are temperature dependent in the physiological range. Accordingly, we tested the hypothesis that mild hypothermia impairs and mild hyperthermia improves resistance to dermal infections. Thirty-two guinea ...

Cardiovascular and thermal responses to intravenous endotoxin in guinea pigs.

Changes in blood pressure, heart rate, and heat balance during febrile response to E. coli endotoxin were studied in unanesthetized guinea pigs at an ambient temperature of 24 degrees C. The heat balance was measured with direct and indirect calorimetry. An intravenous injection of endotoxin (5 micrograms X kg-1) produced characteristic biphasic changes in the intra-aortic temperature (Tar), he...

Nitrous oxide anesthesia-associated myelopathy.

BACKGROUND The role of nitrous oxide exposure in neurologic complications of subclinical cobalamin deficiency has been reported, but few cases are well documented. OBSERVATION Two weeks after surgery for prosthetic adenoma, a 69-year-old man developed ascending paresthesia of the limbs, severe ataxia of gait, tactile sensory loss on the 4 limbs and trunk, and absent tendon reflexes. After a s...

Nitrous Oxide-Curare Anesthesia: Reappraisal*

Of the many inhal ation drugs available today, nitrous ox ide is the only one which is both nonex plosive and non-tox ic. Although the compound is rarely listed as a primary agent , it is used on almost every patient. The usefulness of nitrous oxide tends to be dismissed because it is considered to be relatively weak. However, with the continuing trend toward lighter anesthesia see n during the...
